THE BRAVE FOUNDATION

Building Resilience Affirming Values Early

When communities thrive nations prosper. To achieve transformational change in vulnerable communities, every mind counts. At The BRAVE Foundation we are focused on creating structures and strengthening existing institutions to help children at risk of or that display signs of poor mental health. Through sustainable early intervention initiatives we aim to make a difference in disadvantaged communities within sub-Saharan Africa.

The Change We Want To Be

Our Why

Within the Southern African Development Community (SADC) region the number of vulnerable children continues to grow. The HIV/AIDS pandemic, economic turbulence, crime, drug and solvent abuse, youth unemployment, and the current COVID-19 pandemic are just some of the many challenges currently facing the region. With all this turmoil and noise it is easy to miss the forest for the trees and relegate any conversation on mental health to the “not a priority" list. However, at BRAVE we believe that many of the social and economic problems our region faces today are interrelated to mental health. We believe that early intervention is vital in promoting sustainable mental health outcomes in disadvantaged communities.

What We Do

Impacting Communities Through Sustainable Mental Health Early Intervention Practices

EARLY INTERVENTION

At BRAVE, our focus is on supporting the early development of social and emotional skills in children at risk to foster cognitive development and well-being. By partnering with existing institutions and communities we are determined to make a sustainable impact. We tackle mental health challenges in vulnerable communities at the root through delivering holistic early intervention programs.

CAPACITY ENHANCEMENT

We work closely with existing mental health services structures to amplify their impact within communities. We help enhance the capacity of existing institutions and create new platforms to deliver sustainable early intervention mental health services.

AWARENESS CREATION

Through public health promotion and education in partnership with various advocacy and lobbying organizations, we strive to improve the understanding and awareness of the importance of mental health initiatives targeting children at risk.

TRAINING & ENGAGEMENT

At BRAVE we believe in the tremendous potential of women to transform society. This is why our work is centered on engaging women from all walks of life, to help shape an impactful mental health early intervention delivery system, assisting families, communities, and nations to achieve enduring benefits.
